One ASUS Ascent GX10 or a two-node cluster?

When one node is enough, when a second helps, and why 2 × 128 GB is not a single 256 GB GPU.

Start with one node

If your model, context and working buffers fit on one GX10, a single node is a useful starting point. It is easier to reproduce the environment, locate bottlenecks and establish a baseline.

Two nodes require a distributed workload

Two GX10 systems can communicate through ConnectX-7. Connecting them does not create one contiguous 256 GB memory pool. Your application needs to distribute the model or its work across two separate systems.

Measure what the second node adds

A cluster can help when a workload requires distribution or you want to run independent experiments at once. For a single model, verify that your runtime supports two nodes. Network communication adds overhead, so twice the hardware does not guarantee twice the speed.
